What happened to Pocket

It ended in stages. That’s why people are still finding out.

8 July 2025Mozilla stops Pocket accepting new saves.
12 November 2025The export window closes, and the archive is queued for permanent deletion that day.

Ten years of “I’ll read this later” ended in stages, which is why people are still discovering it now.

Mainly trying to work out what you can still recover? Read the full guide to moving off Pocket instead — it covers the recovery routes and names the other options honestly. This page is narrower: it’s just us against them.

Side by side

Ten rows. Pocket wins four of them.

The real difference

Pocket was very good at saving. That was never the part that was failing you.

Every read-it-later app ever built is excellent at saving. That isn’t a hard problem, and it isn’t the one you have. The problem is the ninety-item list you open, scan and close because nothing on it announces whether it fits the eleven minutes before your next meeting.

My Minute Mix starts from the other end. You say how long you have. It builds a session out of what you already saved that actually fits — one long read, or a video and two threads, depending on the minutes. Pocket could tell you an article was nine minutes. It couldn’t tell you what to do with twenty.

TL;DR

Pocket

Great at saving and at reading what you saved: reader view, offline, listening, native apps. Couldn’t say what fits twenty minutes.

TL;DR

My Minute Mix

Starts from the minutes you have and builds a mix that fits. Imports your Pocket export. No reader view, no offline.

Where Pocket was better

Four things. Pretending otherwise would waste your time.

Pocket wins

The reader view

Pocket’s was excellent. There’s no reader here at all — saved items open the original page, advertising and all.

Pocket wins

Offline

Pocket cached article text for the tube and the plane. This doesn’t.

Pocket wins

Listening

Pocket read articles aloud. Not yet here.

Native apps

Pocket had real iOS and Android apps. This installs as a web app, which is close on Android and noticeably less good on iOS.

If those four are what you’re replacing, be honest with yourself and look elsewhere — the guide lists the apps that do them well.
Moving over

Bring your export. Here’s the calm way in.

  1. 1

    Find your export file

If you downloaded the export Mozilla offered before 12 November 2025, that file — HTML or CSV — is all you need. If you didn’t, the guide covers how to reconstruct a surprising amount from browser history and old Pocket digest emails.

  2. 2

    Import it

Sign up free, open Import and choose the file. It’s read in your browser. Items you’d archived in Pocket are skipped by default, links already in your library are skipped, and up to 2,000 links are saved and measured in the background. Want the numbers first? The free Backlog Calculator counts the links and estimates the hours inside.

  3. 3

    Build a mix

Pick the minutes you have and work through the old list a mix at a time. New saves come in from the web app or the Chrome extension; saving from Android’s share sheet is coming soon.

Frequently asked

Quick answers.

Can I import my Pocket export into My Minute Mix?
Yes, if you downloaded it before Pocket’s export closed on 12 November 2025. Sign in, go to /app/import and choose the HTML or CSV file. Items you’d archived in Pocket are skipped by default, links already in your library are skipped, and up to 2,000 links per import are saved and measured in the background.
Is My Minute Mix free?
Yes. There is no paid tier today and no card is required. A paid tier may exist eventually for features that cost money to run, but saving and mixing will not go behind it.
Does My Minute Mix have a reader view like Pocket did?
No. Saved items open on the original website, advertising and all. Pocket’s reader view was genuinely better and there is no equivalent here.
